respect for techniques and raw materials. To this attention is added a marked human and aesthetic sensitivity, as well as a commitment to sustainable development. The brand has chosen to use only noble, biodegradable and renewable materials from plants that grow abundantly and regenerate quickly.
Sagarminaga Atelier’s multidisciplinary team works closely with architecture and interior design studios to define and co-create technically high-quality pieces that combine art, craftsmanship and design. Versatile and versatile in their use and transformation, natural fibres can be adapted to the projects of interior design specialists, allowing them to express their creativity and vision through materials.
Each piece is designed and made by hand, with the help of technical solutions for design and digital cutting, in their workshop in Bilbao, where their raw materials are based around three axes: vegetable fibres, ropes and natural dyes. The natural materials used in the design are diverse, ranging from fibres such as spartan to reed and rattan, as well as wood, such as chestnut essence. ‘Many hours of study, work and dedication go into each of the objects produced, which are not only inspired by tradition but are also the result of research into the possibilities of materials and different production techniques.’
In this way, ancient weaving techniques from Europe and Asia are combined with new digital cutting technologies. Depending on the needs of each piece, the fibre is manipulated by applying colour or using different types of braiding, modulation or stitching, adapting the practice to the material.
‘Sagarminaga Atelier is a studio with a unique personality that combines design, craftsmanship, creativity and technology to create geometric and sculptural pieces. These cultural elements elevate the work of interior designers and architects, giving them a unique and distinctive image.’
